POST 8: A SUBJECT YOU ENJOY STUDYING THIS SEMESTRE

Hi there, today you must write about your favorite subject this semester. For example, when I was studying at the faculty of Philosophy and Humanities, I remember there were many subjects very interesting but there was one which became quite important for my professional work, Sociolinguistics. This subject is about how language is used according to different social factors such as age, gender, social class, political ideas, geography and many other factors. The theory I studied has helped me to face some problems especially to understand certain styles of learning, because everyone is different and sometimes education professionals don't understand this fact. Education is one component of this subject which is very wide and rich in its analysis of the use of language in society. I hope you can study a subject which can go beyond the limits of the theory and the limits of the Faculty. It is very useful to learn a subject which can be applied in reality because there is a big gap between the theory and the practical uses of what we study at university. Maybe, it's possible you cannot realise right now what subject will be important but I think, at least, you can tell us which subject you have enjoyed the most this semester.

POST 5: A PHOTOGRAPH YOU LIKE

I like this picture because it is a good snapshot of the moment and it shows the force of nature, how small we are and how nature can destroy everything humans have built for years just in some seconds. It was taken in April during the eruption of this massive volcano and gives us a good perspective of how big, enormous and dangerous the eruption was. I think we can see how the wind carries the ashes and the volcanic material which allows us to think over the damage an eruption like this can cause to us. However, it does not show the consequences and the problems it caused to the inhabitants of the local towns and villages, both in Chile and in Argentina. Finally, I don't know exactly who took it but it appeared in the papers, there's no doubt it was taken by a professional photographer with a high resolution camera.
